Your Car Insurance Could Always Get Better

As they say, change is the only constant thing on Earth. It is perhaps the most inevitable. Your car insurance may be good enough already, but it can always use a little space for improvement in terms of coverage, insurance company’s reputation, and rate. It is always in every customer’s best interest to be vigilant but never to be skeptical.

Drivers should regularly update themselves about the latest trends in car insurance. With the tough competition going on now, different car insurance companies will always have different perks to attract new customers and retain the old ones. Your insurance rates can vary from time to time whether it is because of the market condition or because of your performance as a customer in general.

Once again, review your insurance policy; make sure that you’re still enjoying the best discount you’re entitled to especially for being a good customer. You could also make sure that proper changes or adjustments have been done if you’ve changed your vehicle recently. Checking your company’s reputation is also an act of being vigilant. You have to make sure that you can still rely on them when problem arises. You can also make a list of different insurance policies that catches your attention every now and then so you compare them from time to time.

If in case you think you should be switching to another insurance company, first thing you need to do is to call your insurer and give them sufficient notice about your intention. Give them an effective date, and make sure to follow up on that date to make sure it’s already being cancelled to avoid being billed automatically for the next month. Doing so saves you a lot of trouble with your credit history and wasting your money and time.

Not paying your bill doesn’t give insurance companies the go signal to terminate your contract. Your charges would pile up unless you go through the company’s termination process. You should receive a cancellation request form which you’d still need to review carefully before you sign and send it back to them. Make sure to photocopy the letter that you sent them and have a proof that the letter was sent just incase they tell you that they haven’t received it. Remember to follow up with them from time to time if their process is already taking real slow.

Telling your providers the real reason why you are leaving them is a very good act. Most companies have “Retentions Department” and their goal is to make you stay with the company in any possible ways they can. They might be able to give you offers which you were never aware could be possible. Companies may also have Early Termination Fee depending on the contract you signed up with them. If you insist not to pay, they will cancel your policy but the bad thing is that it will affect your credit report. If your car insurance policy was cancelled with a not-so-good reason, this will hurt your chances of getting new auto coverage especially from a reputable company and with a reasonable rate.

Make sure also that you are certain with your old provider about the date they stop covering you, and make sure that it coincides with the date that your new provider will start giving you their coverage. This is a must as there is no single day when we are surely accident-free.
